But the only problem I had with it is that the USB cable is too short so that I have to take my laptop near the printer every time I wanted to print something.<br \/>\nSo I decided to connect the printer to my old server box and set up CUPS for printing over the network.<\/p>\n<p>Everything went through fine but after I installed the printer opening the printer dialog box took an eternity every time I tried using it.<\/p>\n<p>The problem seems to lie in the IPP handler of Windows. Somehow there is a bug in Windows that makes IPP settings and Windows internet security settings get mixed up resulting delays.<\/p>\n<p>Adding the CUPS server to Internet Explorer&#8217;s Intranet zone can be a workaround.<\/p>\n<p>Open Internet Explorer -> Tools -> Internet options and add the following:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/manatails.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-03-31-17_47_23-Blank-Page.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/manatails.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-03-31-17_47_23-Blank-Page.png\" alt=\"2016-03-31 17_47_23-Blank Page\" width=\"910\" height=\"736\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-489\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manatails.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-03-31-17_47_23-Blank-Page.png 910w, https:\/\/manatails.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-03-31-17_47_23-Blank-Page-300x243.png 300w, https:\/\/manatails.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-03-31-17_47_23-Blank-Page-768x621.png 768w, https:\/\/manatails.net\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/2016-03-31-17_47_23-Blank-Page-842x681.png 842w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 910px) 100vw, 910px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>where the address is the CUPS server&#8217;s IP address.
